It takes a village
Working with parents is one of our specialties. Generally parents reach out to us for one or more of the following reasons:
-They are pregnant or recently had a baby and have concerns about their mental health and wellbeing.
-They struggle to remain connected, regulated, and responsive, particularly during challenging parenting moments.
-They have concerns about their child's social, emotional, and behavioral wellbeing.
-Their personal parenting history was harsh or abusive and they find themselves frequently overwhelmed.
Parenting while struggling with anxiety, depression, or a history of trauma can be beyond overwhelming. In addition, parenting a child with social, emotional, or behavioral challenges requires that parents be regulated and resourced. At Integrative Family Therapy we care deeply about the parents that come to us for support. You will find us to be compassionate, non-judgmental, and non-pathologizing. We aim to partner with parents, uncover the root causes of distress, and create lasting change from the inside out.

We are here to help
When children struggle, their parents tend to struggle. Likewise, when parents struggle, their kids tend to struggle. The parent-child relationship is a dynamic system. Their interactions can be connecting and secure. Or they can lead parents and children to become disconnected, dysregulated, and distressed. We guide parents to create responsive interactions that lead to stronger parent-child relationships, greater fulfillment, and pro-social behavior. We are deeply committed to a non-blaming and non-pathologizing approach.
At Integrative Family Therapy our work generally begins with helping parents connect with themselves, which supports them to connect with their children. In addition, we equip parents with education, tools, and strategies. We also go deeper to focus on healing and growth. Our work with parents is centered on creating change at the nervous system level. We help foster secure attachment and guide parents to space of emotional regulation so they can access their parenting tools.

What Can I expect
Therapy begins with clients and therapists working together to create goals for their work. Generally when working with parents, we will explore your personal history and attachment styles. We will examine what arises within you when you or your child are struggling. We will look at the patterns of interaction that show up and support you to make positive shifts. We will explore your self care practices and the relationships you have that are supportive of you.
In our work together we will teach strategies drawing from Attachment Theory and Interpersonal Neurobiology. We will assist you to examine thoughts, beliefs, feelings, needs, and actions and make sense of your inner experiences. Our aim is to help you connect with yourself, and be supported by others, so you can be well-equipped to rise the challenges of parenthood. We will also take a close look at structure, routines, boundaries, and limits and help you implement what works best for your child and family life. In addition we teach you practical strategies that will make it easier for you to stay regulated when your child becomes dysregulated.
