Adolescence is a time of rapid growth and transformation. As children become adults, they are challenged to know themselves, claim their identity, take on numerous responsibilities, advocate for what they need and want, and develop skills to navigate stress and struggle. It is also a time that they are faced with physiological and physical changes, pressure from multiple facets, mental health challenges, friendship dilemmas, and the drama of relationships.
At Integrative Family Therapy, we provide down-to-earth counseling for adolescents ages 12 and older. As therapists, we have a unique relationship with the teens we feel honored to work with. We guide them to understand their thoughts and feelings, build emotional intelligence, and learn practical skills they will be able to utilize for their entire life. We support them with understanding themselves and the people and experiences that matter to them. At the same time, we aim to broaden compassion, perspective taking, and the influence they have on others and the world around them. We aim to help them create lives that are balanced, full and vibrant.
Therapy can help pre-teens and teens with developing:
Self-confidence
Communication tools
Coping skills
Emotional intelligence
Connection with family members
Secure relationships
Healing from painful experiences or trauma
Stress management skills
Mindfulness
Decision making
Tools to manage anxiety and depression
Resilience
Healthy boundaries
Self-advocating skills
Healthy friendships
Our approach is relational, integrative, and holistic. We ensure that teens have a confidential space of their own where they feel comfortable talking about topics of their choosing. Depending on the goals for therapy, we may include parents in our work in an effort to strengthen communication and bolster support. Or we may recommend that teens and parents work together with a family therapist, in addition to their individual therapy. When indicated, we collaborate with other providers such as psychiatrists, teachers, or educational specialists. We may weave in mind/body healing approaches to equip teens with practices that support wellbeing. Examples of this may include journaling, movement, breathwork, mindfulness, nature, and yoga.
If you are interested in learning more about therapy for your child, or you are a teen yourself, reach out to us for a no cost consultation or schedule a session. If we are not the right fit, we can help connect you with providers or resources in the community.
