Parent Coaching

Overview

When parenting a child with mental health or behavior difficulties, parenting can feel hard, confusing, exhausting, or even scary. You love your child immensely. You want nothing more than to see your child thrive, yet no matter what you do, they continue to suffer. You may second guess how to handle tough moments. You may learn everything you can from parenting experts, but they seem to contradict one another. Perhaps you utilize strategies that are effective for a little while, but nothing sticks. You may find yourself yelling, threatening, disconnecting, withdrawing, or struggling with boundaries. 

Most parenting advice that gets circulated among well-meaning family and friends is outdated. And most of the time it will not apply to children with mental health and behavior challenges. We talk to many parents that have tried popular parenting programs and it either did not help or even made things worse. At IFT, we strive to get the root of behavior difficulties by guiding parents to become a source of soothing, strength, and regul

What we know about effective parenting has changed dramatically in the last ten years.  Research in the areas of neuroscience, interpersonal neurobiology, and attachment inform the approach we take at Integrative Family Therapy. Our parent coaches can equip you with skills and tools that will help you navigate your child's mental health and behavior challenges with confidence, compassion, and connection. We have found that parent coaching is a helpful adjunct if your teen is in therapy. It can also be helpful as a standalone service if your child is younger than 12.
